Nenthead
a potted history
Nenthead was the most important lead mining centre in the area from the late 1700s. A Quaker led mining company contributed greatly to the village with services such as a school, a reading room, a village hall and housing being provided by the company for the employees and local inhabitants. Set amidst the barren and wild pennine views, the climate here is reputedly colder than Aberdeen in Scotland. Nested amongst the fells and providing a shop, public house and a visitor centre Nenthead is well worth a closer look.

Nenthead Mines Heritage Centre is a Scheduled Ancient Monument and in the 19th century was part of one of the largest lead and silver mining and processing areas in the country.
